Hello again! High On Life has been an incredibly gratifying experience for me and everyone at Squanch Games. It’s been a passion project for all of us, and we couldn’t be happier with how many of you have helped save Earth from the alien cartel. We’re not quite ready to leave the universe that we’ve built together, which is why I’m so excited to share more information about our first DLC, High On Knife. It’s set two years after High On Life ended, and everything is totally cool until Knifey gets a package from home. Don’t ask how or why Knifey is getting mail. It’s mysterious for a reason.
You can see the new trailer above, just in case you missed it during the Xbox Games Extended Showcase.
You may have picked up on a bit of a vibe change. High On Knife is still freaking hilarious and weird, but we’re also getting a little spooky this time around. Not like, “I may never sleep again,” levels of terror, but definitely on the “My dreams are going to be broken for a while,” end of things. Think body horror, but you start off with a horrible body and it gets even more horrible. You’ll have to trust us on that for now.
Today, we wanted to share some all-new details about the latest additions to our roster of talking guns. I’ll let Alec Robbins, High On Life‘s narrative director take it from here.
“You can see little peeks at two of our new guns here: one of them is Harper, voiced by the incredibly funny Sarah Sherman (SNL, Sarah Squirm), and the other is B.A.L.L., a weird little pinball gun operated by a gaggle of tiny gibberish-speaking freaks. I actually voice those guys because I won a rigged fan contest.
“This teaser shows off the “scary” part of our comedy game. It’s important that every comedy game has a scary part to offset all the comedy. Ideally, we’d get one scream for every 3 laughs just to even out the overall emotional experience but we’re still fine-tuning things to see if we can hit that mark.”
Since the launch of High On Life, we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from players worldwide. The enthusiasm and passion shown by our community have exceeded our wildest expectations, making it clear that the game has struck a chord with gamers and that there is still a place for games like High On Life out there.
At Squanch Games, we’re excited for everyone to get their hands on the new content in High On Knife and look forward to bringing great, off-beat games to all our fans in the years to come. High On Knife will be coming to PC and Xbox consoles this fall, and we’re excited to share more in the months ahead.
