If there’s something an RPG needs, it’s choices. Choices that can change the balance, transform lives, and even reduce homes to ash. GreedFall: The Dying World has all of this (and more) packed into a tightly woven story, waiting for you to unravel it.
Quests in GreedFall never have just one way of solving them – you’ll be given multiple choices on how to handle them and earn different results depending on what you decide.
Play as a diplomat with a silver tongue, able to walk through the slightest hint of danger with words alone. Or how about an unwavering warrior who looks danger in the eye and takes down their enemies without breaking a sweat? Perhaps you’d prefer a stealth master who sneaks through the environment around them, finding hidden secrets scattered across the world that you can later use in your favour.
These are all possibilities; you need only pick the one that suits your playstyle.
You can make any of these options easier by adding points into your numerous talents, earned through levelling up: Diplomacy, Alchemy, and Stealth are just some you’ll have at your disposal to help you find ways to tackle any problems you come across.
Impact… and Consequences
Shaping the universe around you, your choices will impact both you and others alike. Ended up on someone’s bad side? Caught red-handed sneaking through restricted areas and forced to fight your way out? These are all consequences, and ones you’ll need to take head on should you find yourself stuck in such a situation.
Make various decisions during quests that can have immediate resolutions to the problem – or watch as the results of your actions only make themselves known later. Will the results be positive? Negative? Only time will tell.
These choices will extend to your companions, too. Upon reaching certain points in the story, they’ll come to you for help. Be it for help resolving an issue that’s plagued them for years or extending a hand to those they deem in need, you can support them in their endeavours. Or not. If you’re of the more chaotic disposition and love watching the world burn, you can simply refuse their requests. How this will turn out for them, however, remains to be seen.
They can express approval or disapproval of your actions, too. So careful with how you handle situations, else you’ll find yourself caught under a torrent of withering glares from your companions. If you push them too far, their resentment growing unbearable, they can even walk away from the group and abandon you to your fate. We wouldn’t want that now, would we?
Enemies, close friends, or even lovers – what you pick will not only decide their fates, but it will also decide what they are to you.
Perhaps you think it ends there? No. Not only does it impact these aspects, but it also impacts the ending of the game. Depending on what you’ve done throughout your adventure, you’ll either have allies rallying at your side or will walk a lonesome road.
The world and its people won’t escape your decisions either: everything you’ve done until then will decide their future, and they’ll either witness a new dawn or be condemned to darkness.
How your choices will change things for you, we cannot say. It’s something you’ll need to find out for yourself when you reach your journey’s end.
